Atkinson — Cynthia "Evelyn" Slaymaker, 95, of Atkinson, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2024 at the Stanton Nursing Home in Stanton. Visitation will be held from 8-10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 30, 2024 at the Seger Funeral Home in Atkinson. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 30, 2024 at the funeral home in Atkinson. The family requests casual dress for the services. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Atkinson. Memorials may be made to the family for future designation. Cynthia Evelyn was born March 17, 1929, in Gainesville, GA to Andy and Cinthia (Gravitt) Day. She was the second of 13 children. She grew up helping on the family cotton farm knowing the values of a close knit family. On Sept. 6, 1957, Evelyn married Vernon Elmer Slaymaker in Gainesville, GA. To this union four children were born. She always made time for her husband and kids. Evelyn was a spiritual woman. Her faith was very important to her. She was always singing especially Christian music. Education was extremely important to her, homework before horses was the rule of the house. She enjoyed fishing with Vernon and her girls. Anyone who knows her knows that she was an avid gardener, especially with her huge strawberry patch. Her garden was large enough to share with neighbors and friends. Evelyn loved her flowers. She had them planted everywhere. Yellow ones for her and red ones for Vernon. She loved to cook and you never went hungry. She would always say, "Eat up, there's plenty more." Evelyn is survived by three daughters Cathy Slaymaker of Rulison, CO, Patty (Mike) Babutzke of O'Neill and Mary of Atkinson, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon, an infant daughter, her parents Andy and Cynthia, and her 13 brothers and sisters Manuel Day, Lina Day Pirkle, Inis Clair Day, Andy Clide Day, Mary Lue Day, William Leroe Day, Alvious Jasper Day, Earl Nimrod Day, Francis E. Day, Winford Y. Day, Carrie Day, Cynthia E. Day and Luella Day.
