Nov 27, 2024 (0)

TAKING HOME THE GOLD - The Stuart Broncos claimed the title of State Champions last Friday, Nov. 22 when they downed rank #1 Sumner-Eddyville-Miller in a close 42-38 bout. Congratulations to the team and all of Stuart Public Schools.

The Stuart Bronco Football team has won the program's first ever state title last Friday night as they beat the undefeated and number one ranked team in the state, Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Mustangs. The Mustangs were riding a 23-game win streak going into the championship game. The Broncos came out on top, 42-38.

The Broncos started out slow as the Mustangs scored 16 straight to start the game. On the Broncos third drive, they drove down the field and Drew Schmaderer capped it off with an 8-yard rushing touchdown. SEM drove down the field again and scored a touchdown making it 24-8 as the game was nearing the end of the first half. The Broncos got inside Mustang territory and scored a huge touchdown before the half on a hook and ladder. Kayde Ramm threw a pass to Ben Paxton who pitched it to Schmaderer and Schmaderer ran it in from 12 yards out. The Bronco defense held on to get to the half trailing 24-16.

The Broncos came storming out of the half and drove down the field and scored a touchdown. Lane Boelter made the extra point and tied the game. The defense got more comfortable in the second half and slowed down the Mustang rushing attack. Kayde Ramm started using his legs and arm in the second half. Ramm hit Hunter Tubbs for a big 32-yard reception and Owen Littau capped it off with a two-yard rushing touchdown. Littau had two rushing touchdowns in the second half. Ramm hit Tubbs again. This time for a touchdown and cut the lead to two. On the next SEM drive, the Bronco defense forced SEM to a fourth down play. Out of a timeout, the Mustangs chose to throw the ball and Gavynn Mustin dropped the pass and intercepted it and took it all the way down to the 15-yard line. Two plays later, Kayde Ramm ran it for a touchdown and took the lead for the first time with 1:39 left in the game. The Bronco defense held up again and Owen Littau batted down a ball on fourth down and the Broncos offense could kneel out the clock winning their first state title in program history.

Littau led the rushing attack with 110 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns. Ramm had 92 yards rushing and one touchdown and Drew Schmaderer had 31 yards and two touchdowns. Hunter Tubbs had two catches for 37 yards and one touchdown. Ben Paxton had three catches for 30 yards.

Paxton led the defense with 11 tackles. Tubbs wasn't far behind with 10. Littau, Mustin and Schmaderer each had seven and Kayde Ramm had six tackles and one sack.

We would like thank our families and the community of Stuart for their support this season. This would not have been possible without with!
