Last week showed some solid play from the St. Mary's Lady Cardinals. They competed in the NVC Tournament in Elgin and managed third place behind West Holt and Summerland The Cardinals came out fierce against their first opponent, Niobrara Verdigre on Monday, Oct. 21, allowing them only 16 points in the first set. Scoring remained mostly consistent, with the Cards always coming out on top. They were able to take the 3-0 win and move on. The next day, Oct. 22, the Cards competed in semi-finals against Elgin/Pope John. It was an epic back-to-back struggle from the start, with the Wolfpack managing to eke out the victory just two points before the Cards. Unfortunately for the Cards, it was only downhill from here. The second and third sets the Wolfpack easily dominated and they moved up. The Cardinals weren't out of the Tourney yet, as they still had time to make an impact. It would be three days later, Friday, Oct. 25, where the Cardinals would make a comeback. They faced the Boyd County Spartans for the third place title and were able to overcome them. Some sets were tricky, with the Cards just barely managing the win. It would end well for the Cardinals and they managed a solid third place overall in the Tournament.
