Delmar "Del" Ralph Pinkerman, 76, of O'Neill, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2024 at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill. Memorial visitation was held Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill with a prayer service. Military graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024 at the Scottville Cemetery northeast of O'Neill with military rites by the O'Neill American Legion Simonson Post 93. Memorials may be made to the Scottville and Dorsey Cemetery Associations in Del's name. Delmar, middle son of William Guy and Dorothy (Christensen) Pinkerman was born on Nov. 25, 1947, at the hospital in O'Neill. He grew to adulthood in the Scottville area of Holt County and graduated from Lynch High School in 1966. After high school he worked in O'Neill before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He served his country from January, 1968 to January, 1970 including a one-year tour of duty in Vietnam with the 3rd Battalion of the 8th Infantry, where he was awarded a Bronze Star with āVā Device. On July 2, 1969, he was united in marriage to Darla Pickering. The couple moved to O'Neill in January, 1970, and lived there the entire 55 years of their married lives. They were blessed with two children David and Dawn. Del worked for the Holt County Department of Roads for over 40 years before his retirement in 2012, where he made many lifelong friends. Del is survived by his wife Darla; two children David (Susan) Pinkerman of Lincoln and Dawn (Greg) Thornton of Clemmons, NC; four grandchildren Miriya and Aiden Pinkerman of Lincoln and Will and Graham Thornton of Clemmons, NC; two brothers Randy (Dee) Pinkerman of O'Neill and Dan (Brenda) Pinkerman of Lynch; one aunt Kay Krugman of Sioux Falls, SD; three brothers-in-law Vic (Norma) Pickering, DeLynnn (Connie) Pickering and Pete (Sue) Pickering; two sisters-in-law Marlene Pickering and VaLaura (Kevin) Middleton; and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law Claude and Zelda Pickering and two brothers-in-law Stan Pickering and Quentin Pickering.
