For some time now, the O'Neill Lady Eagles have been dominating the competition, and last week was no exception. After an unfortunate first-game loss in Mid-States, the girls quickly managed to turn things in their favor. Their first competitor last week was Boone Central on Thursday, Feb. 6. The Eagles started this match with some heat, taking an early 21-14 lead. A minor setback in the second quarter brought the Cardinals closer to catching up. The Eagles pulled ahead by a further two points in the third, and Boone Central gave one last push in the finale but still came up short. There was a lot of back-and-forth in this game, and both teams put up some big numbers, but the Eagles managed to overcome the Cardinals and advanced. Hannah Hilker was the MVP with 30 solo points and one rebound and three steals; Taylor Young had 10 points, six rebounds and one steal; Mady Heiss seven points, five rebounds and two steals; Mariah Kallhoff six points, two rebounds and one steal; Olivia Young five points and one steal; Bergyn Classen three points and two rebounds; Ashley Sidak three points and one rebound and Rylee Selby two points. OHS 21 7 20 18 66 BCHS 14 8 18 19 59 The Eagles didn't have much time for celebration, as just two days later, they would face Battle Creek in their final game of the Conference. Things got underway, and the Eagles were on a good pace. They took the first half 27-21. The Eagles were in a good spot, but the third quarter gave them a good scare. They fumbled it 20-13 to fall one point behind the Braves. The Eagles gave it their all in the finale and managed to snipe the game back in a decisive 16-6 ending. Hilker was again the star with 27 points, three rebounds and two steals; Heiss had 14 points and five rebounds; Classen six points and five rebounds; Sidak five points,one rebounds and one steal; O. Young two points; T. Young five rebounds and one steal; Kallhoff three rebounds and Selby two rebounds and two steals. OHS 13 14 13 16 56 BCHS 8 13 20 6 47 Overall, the Eagles performed well in the Mid-States Conference, falling short in their first round but quickly going on to more than make up the difference. After the event, the girls' record sits at a solid 14-6 for the season.
