ST. MARY'S (10) PYPER ICKES is blocked by EPPJ's (23) Madelyn Kurpgeweit in the finale of the 2025 NVC Girl's Conference.

After clearing last year's NVC Conference, the St. Mary's Lady Cardinals have made it a tradition and took home this year's trophy as well! On Feb. 8, the girls took down EPPJ to claim the Championship title.

In round one of the Tournament, played Feb. 1, the Cardinals quickly cleared Boyd County 61-20.

A few days later, on Tuesday, Feb. 4, the girls were up against a tough 13-5 Niobrara/Verdigre team.

The Cards fell flat in the beginning, falling behind 15-8 to the Spartans. They quickly cleaned things up when they sniped quarter two 19-2 to more than even the score.

The Spartans went on to dominate the latter half of the match. When the buzzer rang, the scoreboard read 45-45.

With the pressure mounting, both teams knew this would be their final chance to advance to the Championships. As expected from the St. Mary's Lady Cardinals, they managed to clutch the game in the final moments and advanced further.

Gracie Williamson had a big game with 21 points, two rebounds and one steal; Adyson Peterson had 12 points and seven rebounds; Pyper Ickes close behind with 11 points, six rebounds and six steals; Annabelle Barlow had five points, seven rebounds and two steals and Emerson Mlnarik three points and two rebounds.

After a few day's rest, the girls geared up Saturday, Feb. 8, for the Championship round in this year's NVC Tournament. They were matched against 16-4 EPPJ, who cleared North Central to advance.

The Cardinals got off to a less-than-ideal start, tripping up 16-14. This was no problem for the girls, as they went on to crush the second quarter 15-6 to bring the game in their favor.

Post-halftime, the Cards played defensively, keeping the Wolfpack from scoring any big numbers. In the end, the Cardinals were ahead by 15 points, giving them the clear victory for the night.

Ickes led the team to success with 18 points, five rebounds and five steals; Barlow had nine points, three rebounds and four steals; Peterson was close with nine points, two rebounds and two steals; Mlnarik seven points, seven rebounds and three steals and Williamson six points, five rebounds and one steal.
