The St. Mary's lady Cardinals are already off to a strong start this season. They opened 2-0 their first week and are continuing to make an impression. Their first match of the week the girls were visited by Niobrara/Verdigre. Quarter one was a good way to get the game going, the Cards taking it 9-8. The Cougars stayed consistent and again fell victim to the Cardinals. After the first half, the Cards had a steady lead. The third quarter the Cougars were still breezing behind, but the finale gave the Cards a 10-point lead to give them the clear win. Adyson Peterson was the clear star with 23 points, six rebounds and three steals; Pyper Ickes had 13 points, four rebounds and four steals; Gracie Williamson seven points, five rebounds and one steal; Annabelle Barlow four points, one rebound and four steals; Emerson Mlnarik two points and six rebounds; Lily Bauer one rebound and Casey Clements one steal. SMH 9 11 14 15 49 NVHS 8 8 13 5 34 After a short break the girls were back, hosting Gregory on Thursday. This was brutal match from the Cardinals. They opened with a 17-6 first quarter to give the Gorillas a real hard time. In the next the Cards fumbled and gave it up to the opponent 9-8. This was only a small feeling of false hope, as in post-halftime the Cards put up 42 points on the scoreboard and left the Gorillas with only 13 to give the Cards the easy win. The girls are now 4-0 this season, having yet to lose a match so far. Peterson killed it again with 19 points, 12 rebounds and two steals; Williamson had 15 points, eight rebounds and three steals; Barlow nine points, one rebound and four steals; Mlnarik eight points, eight rebounds and two steals; Ickes seven points, five rebounds and two steals; Bauer six points, three rebounds and one steal and Loretta Scofield three points and one rebound.
