The O'Neill Eagles moved into their second week of basketball play recently. They played Elkhorn Valley and Cedar Catholic with mixed results. Thursday's game against the Elkhorn Valley Falcons wasn't the start the Eagles were looking for. By halftime, the Falcons were up 30-21, putting the Eagles in a tough spot. The third quarter was the nail in the coffin, driving the Falcons up nine more points over the Eagles. The Eagles started to adapt toward the end, but the Falcons would still take it to claim their fourth win this season. Turner Heiss led the Eagles with 12 points, four rebounds and three steals; Trevor Alder was close behind with 11 points, two rebounds and one steal; Porter Mathews had four points and eight rebounds; Brady Eichelberger four points, four rebounds and three steals; Caleb Laursen four points and three rebounds; Braxen Eichelberger three points, one rebound and two steals; Jackson Larsen three points and one rebound; Westen Kohl two points and one rebound; Brock Latzel two points and Nate Brown one point. From the start things were looking grim, with the Eagles taking an early 15-7 loss. The Eagles wouldn't let another game slip and they turned the match in their favor with a 15-6 second quarter. The Eagles further dominated in the third, giving them a safe spot to be in during the finale. Quarter four the Eagles faltered but they still easily had the advantage in the end. The Eagles now sit at a 2-1 record for this season. Mathews led the offense with 15 points, 13 rebounds and two steals; Heiss had 10 points, six rebounds and two steals; Brady Eichelberger eight points, four rebounds and one steal; Alder seven points, three rebounds and three steals; Laursen seven points, two rebounds and one steal; Kohl four points and eight rebounds and Larsen one rebound.
