Recently the O'Neill Eagle boys competed in Mid-States and it didn't pan out quite as they had probably hoped. Last week they moved back to regular play, with much less pressure. On Monday, Feb. 10 the Eagles hosted GACC right after losing to them in their final game of Mid-States. Perhaps with the pressure off or if for revenge, the Eagles dominated this game. They kicked it off with a big 10-2 early lead. Quarter two was a letdown, with the boys lagging behind 10-9. The Eagles were still in a good spot, only furthered by their post-halftime play. They were over letting GACC break through their defenses and finished them off 43-28 in the end. Braxen Eichelberger led the team with 13 points, Turner Heiss was close behind with 12, Porter Mathews crushed it with 12 rebounds and two points, Trevor Alder had five points, Ryder Kelly, Nate Brown and Caleb Laursen all sunk three points each and Bodie Latzel had two points. After the Pirates put up a further 14 points, the Eagles were lagging behind with just 10. Down by eight points, the Eagles had to make a miracle happen. They had a glimmer of hope in the third quarter where they sniped it 14-13. In the end, the Pirates put up a decisive 23-16 to sit the Eagles down and walk home with a win. Braxen and Brady Eichelberger led with nine and eight points respectively, Alder was close behind with seven points, Heiss behind that with six points, Mathews had 12 rebounds and two points again, Kelly and Laursen both had five points each and Jackson Larsen had three points to end the night. OHS 5 10 14 16 45 PHS 9 14 13 23 59 After a disappointing loss to Plainview, the Eagles moved on two days later to face Ord. The Chanticleers put on the heat right from the start. They cleared the Eagles 22-14 and 17-9 in the first half. The Eagles managed a small 18-15 win in the third stanza. But it was right back to Chanticleer domination in the finale with a big 19-8 victory to take the game to 73-49 for Ord. Heiss put up big numbers with 26 points and five steals, Mathews had six points and four rebounds, Brady had five points, Alder had four point, Braxen and Larsen both had three points, Kohl had two points, Laursen had two rebounds and Brock Latzel had one rebound.
