The O'Neill Eagles have had a pretty good turnout so far this year, but all good things must come to an end. Last week, they faced Norfolk Catholic and West Holt and were taken for a ride. They first visited Norfolk Catholic on Tuesday, Jan. 28. The opening didn't bode well for the Eagles, who fell 18-11 early. Quarter two was much of the same. Severely down at half-time, the Eagles would only fall further. The Knights were scoring big-time on the board while holding back the Eagles to just single-digit numbers. In the end, the host dominated the Eagles 71-38. Braxen Eichelberger managed 11 points and two rebounds; Caleb Laursen had six points and eight rebounds; Bodie Latzel also six points and two rebounds; Turner Heiss also six points and one rebound; Trevor Alder three points, three rebounds and two steals; Westen Kohl two points and one rebound; Ryder Kelly and Marcell Summers also both two points; Porter Mathews five rebounds and two steals; Brady Eichelberger three rebounds; Nate Brown two rebounds and two steals and Brock Latzel one rebound. OHS 11 10 9 8 38 NCHS 18 21 21 11 71 Two days later, the boys found themselves in a similar situation, this time visiting West Holt. The Huskies hit hard in the beginning, taking an early six-point advantage. The Eagles managed a 7-6 quarter two to begin leveling the playing field. West Holt hit like a freight train post-halftime. They put up 29 and held down the visitors to just 12. The Eagles took the final quarter 13-12, but the Huskies remained dominant. Braxen Eichelberger again scored 11 points and three rebounds; Laursen had nine points and one steal; Brady Eichelberger eight points, one rebound and two steals; Alder six points; Heiss four points and one steal; Jackson Larsen three points and two rebounds; Mathews two points, seven rebounds and three steals; Brown two rebounds and one steal; Ryder Kelly one rebound; and Kohl one steal. OHS 11 7 12 13 43 WHHS 17 6 29 12 64 These matches bring down the Eagles' record this year to an even 8-8. Hopefully they will be able to get some good games soon to bring their record back up.
