The St. Mary's Lady Cardinals were on a roll but were stunted recently. They visited a 16-3 Stuart Broncos team Monday, Sept. 30 and were taken down 2-0. It was a strong showing from both teams, but the Broncos were relentless. They were constantly on the offensive, not allowing the Cards to score. In the end, the Cards were outdone by the Broncos, falling 25-17 in both sets. This was a good back and forth match and shows how strong both teams are. Annabelle Barlow led the offensive with eight kills and five digs; Gracie Williamson had two kills, one block and two digs; Pyper Ickes had two kills, six digs and four set assists; Adyson Peterson had one kill, two ace serves, four digs and 10 set assists; Anna Otte had one kill and eight digs; Samantha Asche had one kill and Peyton Thompson two digs. A few days later, on Thursday, Oct. 3, the Cardinals picked the pace back up when they hosted Elkhorn Valley and brought them down 3-1. The opening was a competitive battle between both teams, but the Cardinals managed to pull ahead by five points. Set two saw a decline in the Falcons' performance, falling to an early 25-16. Not willing to accept defeat yet, the Falcons adapted and turned the next set in their favor. In the end the Cards managed to overcome the Falcons once again. Both teams put up good numbers and it was some solid play by both teams.
