Last week was a handful for the O'Neill Lady Eagles. They faced one opponent in regular play, two opponents in a triangular and competed in a tournament at Elkhorn Valley High School.

The Eagles found their first opponent in Creighton last Tuesday. The Eagles took their opponent down 3-0, but it wasn't a one-sided match. The Bulldogs put up decent numbers but were ultimately overwhelmed by the Lady Eagles.

Bergyn Classen led the flock with 10 kills, one ace serve and 13 digs; Autumn Jackson had eight kills, three ace serves and six digs; Olivia Young seven kills, one ace serve, one block and seven digs; Taylor Young seven kills, two blocks and one set assist; Mariah Kallhoff five kills, two ace serves and four digs; Hannah Hilker four kills, one ace serve, two blocks, 10 digs and 33 set assists; Serena Chavez one ace serve, nine digs and one set assist; and Taylor Staroscik one dig.

Two days later, on Thursday, the Eagles visited Wayne to take on the Blue Devils host and Cedar Catholic in a Triangular.

The opening against Wayne wasn't what the Eagles would hope for, taking an early 25-16 loss. The Blue Devils upped their defense and allowed for less scoring for the Eagles in set two.

Classen was at the top with five kills, one block and five digs; Jackson had four kills, one ace serve, two blocks and one dig; T. Young two kills and one block; Sidak one kill and one dig; Hilker three ace serves, two blocks, four digs and 11 set assists; Kallhoff one ace serve and two digs; O. Young five digs; Staroscik and Chavez both four digs; and Sidak one dig.

Later that same day the Eagles would face Cedar Catholic and fell in a close 2-0 bout.

The opening of the match showed an even balance between the teams. The Trojans managed to pull ahead first, however, taking it 25-22. Set two saw only a slight decline in the Eagles' performance, leading to a 2-0 win for Cedar Catholic.

Classen leads once again with seven kills and four digs; Sidak had five kills, two ace serves and four digs; O. Young three kills and two digs; T. Young two kills and one dig; Hilker one kill, one ace serve, five digs and 17 set assists; Jackson one kill, one ace serve and one set assist; Madalynn Kellum one ace serve and two digs; Chavez three digs; and Staroscik one dig.

The girls were given a small break, but on Saturday, Sept. 28 they competed in the Varsity Tournament at Elkhorn Valley High School.

The Eagles' first opponent was Battle Creek, who entered with a 12-5 record. Set one showed a good effort from the Eagles, but they were stopped short by the Braves. Set two was no better for the Eagles, giving the Braves the clear win this match.

Later the Eagles would face off with Oakland-Craig and would fall victim to the same fate as their previous match. The first set was brutal for the Eagles, falling behind 25-13 early on. Set two the girls adapted and improved their play, but the Knights still took the match in the end 2-0.

Ending the Eagle's Tournament play was their match against Boyd County which finally gave the Eagles the break they were looking for. The girls came out with a fire in set one, hardly allowing their Spartan opponents to score. The second set saw a great improvement from the Spartans, but the Eagles still proved to be too much for them.

The Lady Eagles enter this week with a record of 6-12 for the season. The Eagles visit Ainsworth this Thursday to try to improve their score.
