The O'Neill Lady Eagles have began conference play this week with two games on Monday with the Eagles winning their first round against Boone-Central 25-23, 22-25, 25-20 and then falling in the second round Monday night to a top rated Guardian Angels Team 25-23, 25-9, 25-11. The Eagles will have played in the consolation round on Tuesday, Oct. 17 against Norfolk Catholic at Albion. First up in last week's games was Battle Creek, who invited the Eagles on Tues. Oct. 10. To start things, the first set ended close, with the slight edge going to the Braves. Set two saw the Eagles begin to sink. They were now down by 15 points total, and with only one set to go they would need a miracle to turn the game around. The final set did no favors for the Eagles, forcing them to concede and hand the win to Battle Creek. Aubrey Jackson led with her seven kills, one ace serve, one block, and three digs; Olivia Young seven kills, one ace serve, one block and two digs; Ashley Sidak four kills and three digs; Autumn Hilker three kills, one ace serve, one block and six digs; Bergyn Classen three kills and one dig; Haley Schluns one kill and four digs; Hannah Hilker one block, eight digs and 23 set assists; and Keeley Chavez eight digs. In the first set the Eagles came crashing down hard when they were handed an early 18 point disadvantage. By the second round they were able to play better, but in the end it didn't do much to help them catch up. OHS 7 16 0 NCHS 25 25 2 On the same day the Eagles faced the Neligh-Oakdale Warriors on their own turf and won 2-1. The first set was very close, but the Eagles were able to just get ahead. The Warriors turned things upside down when they took the second set by two just points. Determined to win, the Eagles pulled through and stole the victory back with a 25-18 third and final set. No individual scores were recorded for the final two matches. OHS 25 24 25 2 NOHS 21 26 18 1
