Josephine "Jo" Kay Turpin, 89, of O'Neill, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023 at West Holt Health Services in Atkinson.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2023 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill. Rev. Mike Durre will officiate.

Burial will be this spring in the Bassett Memorial Cemetery in Bassett.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Josephine was born on Dec. 10, 1933 at Rose, to Joseph and H. Aleath (Miller) Koenig. She grew up the typical farm kid, north of Bassett, on the Keya Paha side of the river.  She attended Bassett High School.

Jo married John H. Turpin on May 16, 1953 at Ainsworth. To this marriage were born five children Lela, John Jr., Jerry, Joel and Jeff. 

The family lived in many communities across northern Nebraska as the family followed John's job in grocery. Finally, in 1973, they settled in O'Neill.  

Jo was mainly a homemaker but did work for some time at Shelhamer's Café.

Jo was a big fan of Soap Operas. 

Josephine is survived by her two sons Joel Turpin of Norfolk and Jeff (Nancy) Turpin of O'Neill; one daughter-in-law Bonnie Turpin of O'Neill; one son-in-law Dewey Miller of O'Neill; 11 grandchildren Kylie Turpin, Colby Turpin, Jesse Turpin, Tyler Turpin, Ashley Turpin, Audra Abdi, Wes (Sandy) Hysell, Tom (Sherry) Hysell, Chris Hysell, Heath (Mara) Hysell and April Miller; 32 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John Turpin Sr. in 1980, two sons Jerry Turpin and John Turpin Jr., one daughter Lela Turpin and one grandson John Turpin III.
