Last Thursday, Dec. 5, kicked off the 2024-25 basketball season at O'Neill Public High School. The girls took the court at 6:30 p.m. and put on a good first game against Valentine. The Eagles kicked things off with a devastating 20-4 opener, and continued the pace most of the match. Valentine was never given the chance to catch up, and the Eagles easily took the victory 69-33. Leading the Eagle offensive was Hannah Hilker with 16 points, four rebounds and two steals; Olivia Young had 13 points, four rebounds and three steals; Taylor Young 11 points, 10 rebounds and one steal; Ashley Sidak nine points, one rebound and three steals; Mariah Kallhoff seven points and four rebounds; Bergyn Classen five points, 11 rebounds and four steals; Mady Heiss three points and one rebound; Serena Chavez three points and one steal; Rylee Selby two points, three rebounds and one steal and Mia Lindsey two rebounds and one steal. Quarters one was a close battle, with the Eagles just coming out on top 11-10. The next was a similar story, the Eagles taking it by just one point. Moving into half Valentine adapted and brought the game to an even 38-38 score. Quarter four was an epic back-and-forth, but it was Trevor Alder who sunk a three pointer right at the end to give the Eagles their victory. Trevor Alder was the MVP with 17 points, 11 rebounds and four steals; Porter Mathews had 10 points, 13 rebounds and one steal; Turner Heiss eight points, 11 rebounds and four steals; Braxen Eichelberger six points, three rebounds and one steal; Caleb Laursen three points, six rebounds and one steal; Brady Eichelberger three points, five rebounds and two steals; Westen Kohl three points and Jackson Larsen one steal.
