Cardinals Finish Third At Crofton Holiday Tourney

The St. Mary's Cardinals boys varsity dropped its first contest of the season as they surrendered a 33-17 halftime lead and lost to the Wynot Blue Devils 53-44 on Friday afternoon. The Cards returned to Crofton on Saturday and were able to survive 21 turnovers and a valiant Bloomfield effort for a 60-56 consolation victory. Wynot defeated Crofton in the championship game.

On Friday against a highly regarded Wynot team the Cards lost their momentum, quit taking the ball to the basket against the Blue Devil press and somehow lost contact with their best three point shooters four times to let them back in the game. Junior Adam Moon led the Cardinal offense with 22 points and seniors Aaron Ohri and Connor Connot chipped in with eight and seven points respectively. Moon also led the rebounding with 13 boards followed closely by Connot with 10 caroms. Moon also led the assist column with four followed by senior point guard Ty Eiler with three. On defense junior Kyle Pardun led with four steals while Moon registered four blocked shots.

Saturday following their first loss the Cards wallowed in self pity for about two and half quarters and then our bench added some much needed spark as St. Mary's was able to secure their seventh victory of the season. Adam Moon again led the Cardinals with a fine 37 point performance and junior teammate Kyle Pardun added 15 in his best all around performance of the season. Moon and Pardun were also the rebound leaders with 13 and six respectively. Aaron Ohri and Connor Connot added four boards each. Pardun led the defense with five steals while Ty Eiler led the assist totals with three.

The (7-1) Cardinals have an action packed week ahead with four games at home. Saturday, Jan. 5 it's Cody-Kilgore, Tuesday, Jan. 8 is a make-up game with Hartington High, Thursday, Jan. 10 the Ewing Tigers invade and then on Saturday, Jan. 12 it's the Renegades from CWC.
