O'Neill Irish Win 12 And Under Districts


The O'Neill Irish Won the 12 and under districts in Crofton. Pictured are front row (l-r): Mikayla Marvin, Kendra Kosizek and Emily Morrow. The O’Neill Fighting Irish 12 and under girls softball team won the District 2 Softball Tournament last weekend in Crofton.  The Irish started the tournament by facing Wakefield and edged them out with a 7-6 win. Emily Morrow was the winning pitcher with five strikeouts and only giving up one hit. 

Next the Irish faced off with Columbus Lakeview. The Irish went out to an early lead scoring five runs in the first inning.  Lakeview came back with nine runs in the second inning but the Irish pulled ahead with nine runs of their own in the third inning. Kosizek rang up two batters, Claire Morrow kept the team going and Emily Morrow finished up with three strikeouts to beat the Lakeview team 14-12.

On the second day of the tournament, the Irish tallied up 16 runs against Dixon and rang up five strikeouts from Allison Becker.  In the semi-final game, Emily Morrow took the mound again to fan three batters and hold Albion to only one  run. The Irish beat the team from Albion, 11-1.

In the championship game, the Irish started a little slow but came alive in the second and third innings scoring nine and six runs.  Mikayla Marvin was the starting pitcher with Emily Morrow coming in for relief and striking out the final batter of the tournament.  The Irish won the game against Pender 15-3.

The championship team consists of Allison Becker, Amanda Brown, Alexa Dougherty, Aurora Gutshall, Breanna Hedstrom, Emma Krysl, Kendra Kosizek, Allison Ludwig, Mikayla Marvin, Emily Morrow, Claire Morrow, Lauren Osborne, and Breanna Storjohann and is coached by Steve Brown and Mike Marvin. The team heads to the Class C State Tournament in Hastings in July.
