Despite a solid season overall, the O'Neill Lady Eagles were stopped short last week when they faced Pierce. Sub-districts had only just begun, but the Eagles couldn't make it the distance. The game was held last Tuesday, Feb. 18, on neutral ground. The Bluejays got the game started, going 12-4 in the opening act. The Eagles struck back with a second-quarter victory, but they still had some lost ground to make up for. Quarter three was the final nail in the coffin. The Bluejays dropped 26 points on the Eagles, with the girls only able to answer back with nine. In the finale, the Eagles got past the Bluejay's defenses again and took it 16-13. In the end, however, the scoreboard read 59-39, therefore ending the Lady Eagles basketball season. Taylor Young led the match with 11 points, one rebound and one steal. Mady Heiss had nine points, Hannah Hilker had eight points and four steals, Rylee Selby five points, Mariah Kallhoff four points and four rebounds, Haily Fick and Bergyn Classen both one point, Tenzlie Sorensen had two rebounds and Olivia Young one rebound. OHS 4 10 9 16 39 PHS 12 8 26 13 50 The girls end their season with a 16-8 record, which averages out to about a 70% win rate. Their longest win-streak was seven games from Jan. 10 to Jan. 30.
