Eagles Have Rough Week

The O'Neill Eagles closed their pre-Christmas season on a sour note, losing to Pierce, Summerland and Wayne.

The Eagles played a tough contest on Tuesday, Dec. 17, falling to Pierce 67-33. They were outscored in every quarter. The Eagles last faced Pierce in December 2023, when they beat Pierce 60-38.

Turner Heiss led the Eagles in this match with 10 points, nine rebounds and one steal; Trevor Alder eight points and one steal; Brady Eichelberger five points eight rebounds and one steal; Jackson Larsen three points and one rebound; Westen Kohl three points  and two rebounds; Nate Brown two points and two rebounds; 

and Brock Latzel two points.

On Thursday, the Eagles hosted Summerland at home and came out with a disappointing 58-36 loss.

The Eagles led in the first and second quarters, going into the half 28-23. Their fast-paced offense drug the Bobcats up and down the floor in the first half. The second half saw the Eagles unable to buy a shot, only putting up eight in the third and fourth stanzas.

Heiss again led the Eagles with nine points, seven rebounds and one steal; Alder eight points and four rebounds; Porter Mathews seven points, nine rebounds and two steals; Larsen six points and one rebound; Brady Eichelberger two points, seven rebounds and one steal; Kohl two points and four rebounds; and Kaleb Laursen two points and two rebounds.

O'Neill was not able to break out of its rough patch on Saturday. The team picked up its third straight defeat, falling 44-31 to the Wayne Blue Devils. The game marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

O'Neill's loss dropped their record down to 2-4.
