The St. Mary's Cardinals have finished their regular season 5-3 and will move on to face Cambridge at home this Thursday, Oct. 24 at 4 p.m. in the first round of play-offs. The Cards traveled to Neligh to take on the Neligh-Oakdale Warriors and clobbered them 70-14. The Cards left 50 unanswered points before the half and a second half in running clock. The Cards ran 55 plays for 16 first downs and had three penalties for 25 yards. Jace Rosenkrans broke things loose for the Cards with a 41 yard touchdown to put the Cards on the board. Gage Hedstrom threw to Ben Barlow for the Cards' next score on a 64 yard touchdown; Hedstrom hit James Eby on the next score for a 33 yard touchdown with Hedstrom taking in the final score of the first quarter on a 11 yard touchdown. Hedstrom ran in a 58 yard touchdown to open up the second quarter. Hedstrom hit Eby again for a touchdown and Barlow for the final score before the half. Rosenkrans got the first score of the second half on a 40 yard touchdown run before the second teams were put in. The Warriors got their first score of the night on a 72 yard touchdown pass to put them on the board 64-8. Logan Brabec threw a 45 yard touchdown pass to Ben Pongratz and then hit Eby for the conversion. In the fourth Brabec got a pick six on a 29 yard interception. The Warriors got their second score of the evening on a 33 yard touchdown to finish off the evening. Hedstrom led the Cardinals' rushing with 13 carries for 165 yards and two touchdowns; Rosenkrans nine carries for 76 yards and two touchdowns; Keigan Couch six carries for eight yards; Seth Popkes two carries for seven yards and Drake Berg five carries for five yards. Barlow led the receivers with three receptions for 77 yards and two touchdowns; Eby four catches for 56 yards and two touchdowns; Pongratz one catch for 45 yards and one touchdown; and John Mlnarik one catch for 12 yards. Leading the defense was Hedstrom and Pongratz each with seven tackles; Rosenkrans had five tackles; Barlow, Eby, Risken Dawson and Berg each had four tackles;Couch, Dalton Herley and Eli Banks each had three tackles each; and Brabec, Carter Cole and Mlnarik each had one tackle.
