Atkinson is gearing up for it's 84th annual Hay Days Celebration soon. Events start from August 16 and go through the 18th, and you'll want to be sure to visit as many events as possible.
Friday, August 16 gets things started at Speedee Mart with riblets, chicken and burgers at 10 a.m. Visit the bowling alley from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. for $2 Bowling. There will be a street dance down Main Street from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. Coronation for this year's King and Queen is at 10:30 p.m. with Mr. and/or Ms. Hay announced as well.
Saturday, August 17 kicks off early with the Fun Run, Walk and Bike Ride. Registration is from 6-6:45 a.m. and the race begins at 7 a.m. The Atkinson Senior Center hosts their Breakfast Buffet from 7:30 to 10 a.m. There will be an escape room starting from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Also, you can watch Duck Races at Connie's Cut & Curl at 10 a.m.
Shortly after, at 10:30 the first float will drive Downtown Atkinson, beginning the Hay Days Parade. This year's theme is "Board Game Bonanza". Enter at 720-260-1920.
The Atkinson Community Center, Presbyterian Church and SomePlace Else Bar will all be hosting lunch immediately following the Parade. Duck Races will also be after the Parade. The Small Engine and Tractor Display will be open after the Parade to 6 p.m. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. will be the Show & Shine Car, Truck Rat Rod, Motorcycle Show and Modified Car Truck. The Community Center will be holding the Arts, Crafts and Vendors show at 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Vendors in City Park will also be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bounce Houses open at noon to 5 p.m.
Starting at 1 p.m. will be J & J Pony Rides in St. John's Lutheran Church. The City Park will also open a Dunking booth at 1 p.m. The Annual Hay Days Golf Tournament will be hosted at 1 p.m. at the Atkinson-Stuart Country Club. Sticking with 1 p.m., there will be a Cornhole tournament at the corner of Legion ballfield. Stop by the Cowboy Trail Shelter from 5 to 8 p.m. for hamburgers and hot dogs. Things wind down at 7 p.m. with cruise night in Downtown Atkinson from 7 to 10 p.m. The Farmer's Market will be hosting the Teen Dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. to end off Saturday's events.
Sunday, August 18 will be the final day of events, starting off with a Free Will Donation Pancake Breakfast at KC Hall from 8 a.m. to noon. The Escape Room returns from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Community Church Service at Farmer's Market building will be at 8:30. The Slow Pitch Softball Tournament will be at the softball field at 9 a.m. The Bowling Alley will again hold $2 Bowling at 11 a.m. Vendors in the park, Small Engine & Tractor Display and Bounce Houses all open back up at 12 noon.
J & J Pony Rides will again be offered at 1 to 4 p.m. The Cake and Pie Walk will be at 3 to 5 p.m. Dilly Bars will be sold East of Park House at 3 p.m. The City Park will be hosting a Barbecue with excellent food at 5 p.m. The Atkinson Fire & Rescue Department end off this year's Hay Days events with their Kiddie Train Rides from 5 to 7 p.m.
This is another year from Atkinson Hay Days sure to impress. It's three full days jammed with fun and outdoor excitement. See you there!
