Man Damages Fences And Cruiser In Pursuit In Pasture

On Saturday, April 6 at 9:30 p.m. a vehicle pursuit began on the west edge of Ewing and ended east of Inman in a pasture at 50053 Highway 20. The Holt County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop the driver of a white Ford Expedition, bearing Minnesota plates, for alleged involvement in a disturbance at a bar in Ewing.

The white Ford Expedition did not stop but continued west on Highway 275. A pursuit ensued and spike strips were deployed at the junction of Highway 20/275. The spike strips were effective and disabled two tires on the Expedition. The O'Neill Police Department arrived at the scene and assisted in the pursuit. The Expedition continued west on Highway 20/275 and turned south at the driveway of 50053 Highway 20/275. The vehicle then allegedly drove through several gates, fences, and cattle panels while being pursed in pastures by the Holt County Sheriff's patrol unit. The Expedition then continued through a pasture and drove through a fence striking an O'Neill Police Department patrol unit head on. The pursuit ended as a result of the crash.

The driver of the Expedition, identified as being Luke Rothering, age 39, of Harmony Minnesota was taken into custody at the scene. The O'Neill Police Officer driving the patrol unit was treated at Avera St. Anthony's hospital for injuries sustained in the crash and released. Rothering was arrested of allegedly operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, assault on an officer using a motor vehicle, D.U.I., driving during revocation, criminal mischief, resisting arrest and many additional charges. Rothering was transported to the scene and incarcerated at the Holt County Jail. Charges are pending at this time.

The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the multiple crash scenes involved in this incident.
