Eagles Bested In 2 Close Games

Last week was a tough one for the O'Neill Eagle boys, having been taken down by both of their scheduled opponents. The matches were close, but the Eagles just couldn't get in the stride.

First to take on the Eagles were the Knights, who traveled from Norfolk Catholic last Tuesday, Jan. 23. Quarter one started well for the Eagles, taking 14 points while the Knights were one behind. The second quarter gave the Knights a three-point advantage, putting them in first place 29-27.

This was still an even match. However, the Eagles let the third slip by them and fell another two points. In the final, it came to a 19-point stalemate, granting neither competitor an advantage. With this, the Eagles were nudged out 61-57.

Drew Morrow killed it with 26 points, shooting eight of 14 three-pointers for 57 percent and one of five two-pointers for 20 percent. Morrow also had three rebounds; Turner Heiss had 10 points, four rebounds and two steals; not far behind, Colton Osborne had nine points and eight rebounds; Trevor Alder close with just nine points; Ryder Pokorny three points, one rebound and one steal; and Brady Eichelberger three rebounds and two steals.

Two days later, on Thursday, the Eagles visited West Holt and were bested in a close 47-41 match.

The game kicked off with some low scores, but the Eagles managed to take the lead, 8-7. In the second quarter, the Huskies were held once again to seven points, while the Eagles put up nine.

While nothing too crazy, the Eagles were still taking the lead, until third. The Huskies managed a big 18-point quarter, while the Eagles were held to just seven. This caused the Eagle's downfall, as they took back the final in another big scoring 17-15 quarter, but it wasn't enough. The Eagles were forced to admit defeat despite a good effort.

Drew Morrow again steals the show with his 25 points, shooting four of seven three-points for 57 percent and four of 17 two-pointers for 17 percent. Morrow also had five points and three steals; Heiss again in second with nine points, three rebounds and four steals; Porter Mathews had four points, three rebounds and one steal; Pokorny three points and five rebounds; Eichelberger six rebounds and one steal; Grant Dusatko three rebounds; and Alder and Osborne two rebounds and one steal.
