Due to some rough weather lately, the O'Neill Eagles have had to delay some games here and there. Last week they played one catch-up match against Neligh-Oakdale. Their first game against Wagner, played on Tuesday, Jan. 16 was played as scheduled The opening act landed the Eagles in a good spot; just one point ahead the Red Raiders. Quarter two showed some Eagle dominance when put up eight more points to widen the gap between the teams. Moving into half, the Eagle's lost their stride when they fell 16-5 in the third. And just like that, the Eagles had lost the advantage, falling short two points. The score was now 47-45 and the final quarter would decide it all. It was a close call, but the Eagles just fell short of resecuring the match. Drew Morrow was the star of the game, shooting two of 12 three-pointers for 17 percent and five of 13 two-pointers for 38 percent. Morrow also had one rebound and seven steals; Ryder Pokorny had 10 points, two rebounds and three steals; Trevor Alder also 10 points and five rebounds; Colton Osborne eight points and six rebounds; Turner Heiss seven points, four rebounds and one steal; Brady Eichelberger three points, three rebounds and one steal; Porter Mathews two rebounds; Grant Dusatko one rebound; and Evan Kopecky one steal. OHS 19 21 5 12 57 WHS 18 13 16 16 63 After a few quiet days, the Eagles were scheduled to visit West Point to take on GACC. This was a pretty even match, but the Eagles managed the win 44-39. Quarter one was a success for the Eagles, giving them an early three-point head-start. The following quarter was much of the same, putting the Eagles at a solid six-point lead at the time. The half was rough for the Bluejays, putting them down a further nine points. The Bluejays took full advantage of their remaining time and put up 18 points while holding the Eagles to just eight. This could've been trouble for the team, but they already placed themselves so far ahead in this match. Drew Morrow was again the highest-scorer with his 13 points, shooting five of 10 two-pointers for 50 percent. Morrow also had two steals; Heiss had 10 points and four rebounds; Pokorny just behind with nine points and two rebounds; Osborne six points, eight rebounds and one steal; Eichelberger three points, seven rebounds and two steals; Alder three points, one rebound and two steals; and Dusatko and Mathews both one rebound each. OHS 12 11 13 8 44 GACC 9 8 4 18 39 The next day, on Saturday, Jan. 20, the Eagles hosted Neligh-Oakdale and easily took them down 75-35. Quarter one pretty much set up the match, with the Eagles putting up 20 while the Warriors trailed with three. The next saw the gap slightly close, as the Warriors scored 14 points, but the Eagles were one step ahead with 25 points. The third quarter gave the Eagles an additional eight points over their opponent. Fourth quarter ended the game with the Eagles putting the Warriors to rest 75-35. Turner Heiss took center-stage with 18 points, shooting two of two three-pointers for 100 percent and five of eight two-pointers for 63 percent. Heiss also had three steals; Morrow behind with 13 points, four rebounds and one steal; Porter Mathews 12 points, three rebounds and two steals; Caleb Laursen six points and two rebounds; Osborne five points, seven rebounds and one rebound; Pokorny five points, one rebound and three steals; Eichelberger four points, three rebounds and three steals; Kopecky four points and two rebounds; Alder four points, one rebound and one steal; Easton Kopecky three points,three rebounds and one steal; Westen Kohl one points and two rebounds; Grant Dusatko one rebound; and Nate Brown one steal.
