Known affectionately as “Beak” to everyone who knew him, Terry Tomjack left a lasting impression on the community he loved so much. Terry was a presence in O'Neill and he will be impossible to forget—fitting for a man who never forgot a name or face. Terry was born March 21, 1946 to Leo and Bernice (Ponton) Tomjack in Norfolk. He grew up in O'Neill, attending St. Mary's and O'Neill High School where he graduated in 1964. He went on to the University of South Dakota and Wayne State College, earning a degree in secondary education. Terry started his teaching career in Snyder, before moving on to Decatur, then Winnebago where he also served as assistant basketball coach at Morningside College. Returning to O'Neill, Terry continued to impact young lives as a substitute teacher and assistant boys' basketball coach at St. Mary's. His passion for sports extended to radio, where he co-announced local games with Scott Poese for over 20 years. Terry was always dedicated to his community, actively participating in the O'Neill Lion's Club and the Men's Club Fireworks Display. Terry is survived by his stepdaughters Katie Ready of Omaha and Sara Blann of Columbia, SC, along with the close friends who were family to him Scott and Darcy Poese and Sandy and Matt Bauer. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Reed Tomjack and an infant son.
