Steven Lawrence Binkerd, 41, of O'Neill, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025 after a car accident east of Neligh. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill with a 7 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill. Fr. Bernard Starman will officiate. Burial will be in the O'Neill Cemetery in O'Neill. Memorials may be made to the family for future designation. Steven was born on Jan. 4, 1984 in O'Neill, to Thomas and Susan (Curran) Binkerd. He grew up in O'Neill and attended St. Mary's Catholic School graduating with the class of 2002. After high school he attended Wayne State College for one year before moving to Conception, MO and attending Conception Seminary. Steven returned to O'Neill and started working for the Boyd County Sheriff's Department while taking EMT classes to get his license. He worked a short time for the Boyd/Holt Dispatch Center and then started working for the Holt County Sheriff's Department. Steven went on to take classes to become an investigator for the Sheriff's Department. He also worked as a part-time police officer for the city of Atkinson. Steven was a certified coroner and also taught many CPR classes in the area. He drove bus for St. Mary's High School and was also a cantor for St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He married Doreen Ayugi on Feb. 17, 2024 in Uganda. Steven was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, O'Neill Knights of Columbus, Jeep Club and also a member of MOCIC. He enjoyed reading, wood working, golfing and Jeep Club. Steven is survived by his wife Doreen Ayugi Binkerd of Lira, Uganda; mother Susan Curran Morrill of O'Neill; father Tom Binkerd of Stanton; five step-siblings Candace (Mike) Leutheuser and Daniel Binkerd, all of Ravenia, MI, Andrew Binkerd of Miskogan, MI, Jennifer (Tony) Villella of Livonia, MI and William Meyer of O'Neill; seven nieces and nephews; and two aunts Kim Alverez of Chicago, IL and Deb (Tim) Drumheller of Leigh. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, one uncle John Binkerd and stepmother Melody Binkerd.
