The St. Mary's Cardinals boys are approaching that time of year with districts and the state tournament just around the corner. The Cards ended their regular season this past week with wins over the Spalding Academy 72-34 and the EPPJ Wolfpack 70-56. The Cards will enter subdistricts this week and with their record will easily advance to the district competition with power points. The Cards traveled to Spalding on Tuesday, Feb. 15 and bested the 9-14 Shamrocks 72-34. The Cards roasted the Shamrocks in the first quarter holding them to six points and putting up 22. The Cards continued to put up double digits in the second for 41 points while the Shamrocks only put up 20 by the half. The Cards didn't lay off the gas in the second half and threw in an additional 29 points in the third quarter alone. The Cards played the bench in the fourth to try and soften the 38 point win. Aidan Hedstrom led the Cards with 22 points, shooting 90 percent in two pointers hitting nine of 10, and two rebounds and two steals; Isaac Everitt 14 points, six rebounds and one steals; Adam Everitt 12 points, seven rebounds and one stal;Tate Thompson six points and seven rebounds; Blake Benson six points,one rebound and two steals; Charles Barlow six points, five rebounds and one steal; Dalton Alder four points, one rebound and two steals; and Wyatt Scofield and two points. SMH 22 19 29 2 72 SPA 6 14 8 6 34 On Friday, Feb. 18 the Cards hosted the EPPJ Wolfpack to end their regular season. The Cards pulled out the 70-56 easily with a home court advantage. The 18-5 Wolfpack played hard only trailing the Cards by three at the end of the first quarter but the Cards fast offense added the divide to 10 by the half with the Cards up 31-21. The Wolfpack kept pace in the second half scoring 35 points to the Cards 39 but the Cards persistence let them get by the Wolfpack for their 14 point win. Hedstrom put up 26 points under the bucket and shot three of six for 50 percent from the charity stripe, Aidan had four rebounds and two steals; Isaac Everitt 16 points and six rebounds; Adam Everitt 14 points, seven rebounds and one steal; Charles Barlow seven points and three rebounds; Blake Benson five points and three rebounds; and Tate Thompson two points, three rebounds and four steals.
