Ron, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, passed away at the age of 69 on June 23, 2024. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, laughter and unwavering love for his family and friends.

Ron was raised in O'Neill, to John and Eileen Schmit with five siblings Melvin, Tom, Roger, Kevin and Kristi. He approached every project with a determination to “get-er-done.” This strong work ethic carried into ownership of the grocery store in Hemingford, his house renovations or simply mowing his lawn, which he took great pride in. He approached everything with determination and saw it through to completion.

Beyond his work, Ron had a passion for living life to the fullest. He had a sharp wit and a gift for sarcasm paired with a smile that could light up any room. He found joy in the simple pleasures, like a round of golf with friends, spending quality time with his grandchildren, working in the shop or watching a movie at home.  He adored his grandchildren and his nieces and nephews beyond measure.

After meeting through a mutual friend, he shared a marriage with the love of his life and dancing partner Pat for 49 years. Their partnership was an example of love, respect, entrepreneurism and strong commitment to family. Together they created a home filled with laughter, warmth and cherished memories that will endure for generations to come.

Family was at the heart of Ron's world. He cherished every moment with them, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love that included a healthy dose of ridicule. His unconditional love, support and guidance were a source of strength for his family, and his presence will be deeply missed.

Ron's legacy of dedication, kindness and joy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. There will be countless stories and memories that will remain in infamy.

Ron is survived by his wife Pat; one daughter Becci (Jeff) Blaesing of Shawnee, KS; four grandchildren Jackson and Katelynn Blaesing and Kelsie and Emma Schmit; and his mother Eileen.

He was preceded in death by his son Eric and father John.

Please join us in remembering and honoring the remarkable life of Ron Schmit.  If you'd like to share a fun memory or story of your time with him that will stand the test of time, please send an email to mem oriesofronschmit@gmail.com. We will be creating a memorial book for the family.
