Amelia — Robert Dean Burge, 76, of rural Amelia, died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2022 at his home in rural Amelia.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church in O'Neill.

Memorials may be made to the Chambers Volunteer Fire Department in Robert's name.

Robert Dean Burge was born on Oct. 13, 1945 at home on the family ranch in Amelia to Clyde and Ruby (Holcomb) Burge. Robert lived on the ranch and attended Chamber Public School through 12th grade.

After high school, Robert entered the workforce and held positions at Kay Dee Cabinet Company in Omaha and Meeks Ranch in Taylor.

In 1981, Robert and his family returned to the ranch in Amelia where he continued to ranch until his time of death.

Robert and Linda were blessed with five children Tammie, an infant son, Diane, Teresa and Kristi.

Robert was a unique person and had a variety of interests. In his early years, he obtained his pilot's license and enjoyed flying small airplanes. He loved family time and activities including water skiing, snow skiing and ice skating. His other interests included showing cattle, woodworking, cattle dogs and horses. Robert had a green thumb and grew the best tomatoes and watermelon.

Robert took pleasure in taking missionary trips to Guatemala and learning Spanish as a second language. Robert was also a prankster and had an ornery side. Robert's ornery side came out frequently and everyone here today has likely been pranked or teased by him. In his later years, Robert looked forward to going to Westside with friends and especially the prime rib dinners.

Robert is survived by his three daughters and their families Tammie (Kevin) Judge of Atkinson and their children Josh (Kaylee) Olberding and children Ryker, Ryson and Rylee, Jamie Olberding and her children Karsyn and Joslyn, Justin Judge and Jake Judge; Diane Burge's daughter Brittany (Josh) Boettcher and their children Amelia, Bruno and Troxel Boettcher; Teresa (Parrish) Frahm of Superior and their children Morgan, Cale and Payton Frahm and Kristi (Cody) Allen of Spencer and their children Lexie Lowery, Remi and Ruby Allen; three sisters Carol Nielsen of Omaha, Lois Dickerson of Piedmont, OK, and Joyce Holdeman of Laverne, OK; one brother Bruce (Verna) Burge of Springfield, MO; special friend Doris Wilson of Stanton; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; one daughter Diane; three brothers-in-law Paul Nielsen, Jerry Dickerson and Gary Holdeman; and two nephews Rod Nielsen and Floyd Dickerson.
