Richard Lee Shelhamer, 86, of O'Neill, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025 at his home in O'Neill. Visitation was held Friday, Feb. 28, 2025 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill with a parish rosary. Memorial services were held Saturday, March 1, 2025 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill. Fr. Ross Burkhalter officiated. Burial was in the O'Neill Cemetery in O'Neill. Memorials may be made to the family for future designation. Richard was born Feb. 7, 1939 to Roy and Verdella (Benda) Shelhamer in O'Neill. He grew up in O'Neill and has been a resident his whole life. Richard graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1958. After high school Richard owned and operated Shelhamer Petroleum, Shelhamer Transport Company and Fox's Food Plaza and Taco John's in O'Neill. He met Margaret “Peg” Sullivan and the couple married on June 15, 1963 in O'Neill. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Richard enjoyed boating and most of all enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities. Richard is survived by his wife of 61 years Peg Shelhamer of O'Neill; two daughters Carrie Hahlbeck of O'Neill and Laurie (Greg) Hansen of Amelia; three grandchildren Brian Hahlbeck, Jason Hahlbeck and Nicholas Hansen; his sister-in-law Marilyn Shelhamer of O'Neill; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog Cali. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Verdella Shelhamer, one brother Paul Shelhamer and one sister Linda Shelhamer Franklin.
