Sutherland — Richard F. Wright, 84, of Sutherland, formerly of Ewing, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022 at his home in Sutherland.

Visitation was held on Friday, Sept. 9, 2022 at Adams Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022 at the funeral home in North Platte. Fr. Sagar officiated.

Memorials may be made to North Platte Catholic Schools in North Platte in Richard's name.

Richard was born March 2, 1938 to Emmett E and Mildred (Lehmann) Wright, in Neligh. He was the oldest of five children. He graduated from Ewing High School with the class of 1956.

Richard married his wife of 60 years, Charlotte on Feb. 22, 1962 in Clearwater.

He started his working career at Pollock Sand and Gravel in 1956 and worked winters at the Ford garage in Neligh. He could and would work on and fix anything. Richard also served eight years in the Nebraska National Guard during this time. He soon began to work full-time for Pollock's and was the manager as it expanded to include a highly successful redi-mix business until his retirement in 2006.

Richard and Charlotte were blessed with twin daughters Debra and Patricia born in 1966. They were certainly the apple of his eye as he devoted many hours to ensuring that they had a joyful well provided for upbringing. The girls' friends enjoyed the fruits of his efforts too with water skiing trips to the Missouri River, giant snow piles he made with his heavy equipment and even flooding the yard for an ice-skating rink.

Richard was also very generous and especially aware of those who were in need. His generosity manifested itself in the form of winter coats, bicycles and many other gifts quietly given.

Following retirement Dick and Charlotte moved to Sutherland to be closer to their grandchildren. He delighted in watching them do whatever they were doing. Dick was not all that interested in sports or the outcomes of their games, but if they were doing it, he would be there. Grandpa also had to make sure that they were provided with “grocery money” for the concessions or the trip home.

Richard is survived by his wife Charlotte; two brothers Don (Melva) Wright of Ewing and Ron Wright of Chambers; one sister-in-law Janice Wright of Longmont, CO; one sister Betty Borsh of Isle, FL; two daughters Debra (James) O'Malley and Patricia (William) O'Malley. all of North Platte; five grandchildren Sean (Michelle) O'Malley of Denver, CO, Mandy O'Malley and Logan O'Malley, both of Lincoln, Joseph (Jenae) O'Malley of Mission, KS, and Anna (Andrew) Reinholz of Nashville, TN; and one great-grandson Callum O'Malley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Terry Wright and one brother-in-law Richard Borsh.

Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and may the perpetual light shine upon him.
