Raymond "Ray" Victor Harmon, 91, of O'Neill, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2025 at Accura Care Center in O'Neill. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church in O'Neill. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025 at the church in O'Neill. Pastor Kasey Summerer will officiate. Burial will be in the O'Neill Cemetery in O'Neill with military rites provided by the Page American Legion Post 315 and the O'Neill VFW Post 926. Memorials may be made to the family for future designation. Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill is in charge of the arrangements. Raymond was born on Nov. 8, 1933 in Scottsbluff, to Morris and Mabel (Johnson) Harmon as the last of five children. He attended school in Scottsbluff until he was 10 years old when his family moved to O'Neill in 1943. Ray and his siblings worked very hard during the blizzard of 1948 to keep the family farm running while his father ran a dozer to deliver medical supplies and food. He attended O'Neill Public School through his junior year. In 1953, Ray enlisted into the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He did his basic training in San Diego, CA. Ray served in the Navy as a fireman on the USS Quincy and was later based for a year in Alaska. While Ray was on leave, he married his high school sweetheart Janice Landreth on Aug. 8, 1955 in Yankton, SD. The couple was later stationed on the Naval Base in San Diego where Rodney and Rhonda were born. Ray was honorably discharged in February of 1957 and they returned back to Page where Ray farmed with Janice's father, then Melanie joined the family. Ray farmed up until he injured his back. He then co-owned Buxton-Harmon Electric and Trenching. The couple moved into O'Neill in 1998 and later moved into the Evergreen in 2021. Ray was a member of the Page American Legion Post 315 and O'Neill VFW Post 926. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in O'Neill and also served as a volunteer on the Page Fire and Rescue Department. Ray enjoyed traveling to many places which includes all 50 states, Denmark, Sweden and Germany. He's also been on many bus tours around the states. Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to auctions, playing cards and going to bingo. Ray also enjoyed watching the Huskers and was a big fan. Ray is survived by his wife of 70 years Janice Harmon; his two children Rodney (Amy) Harmon and Melanie (Gary) Bollwitt; six grandchildren Christopher (Melanie) Harmon, Nick Harmon, Hailee Harmon, Staci (Ryan) Borgelt, Kami (Jeremy) Hilkemeier and Kylie (Will) McCabe; eight great-grandchildren Macoy, Marshal, Caleah, Miles, Graeden, Preslee, Emri and Fletcher; one sister Lois Vorce; Danish daughter Melia (Jorgen) Larsen and Camilla Madsen of Denmark; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Morris and Mabel Harmon; one daughter Rhonda Harmon; three siblings Bonnie (Roy) Berner, Wayne (Donna) Harmon and Donald (Ann) Harmon; one brother-in-law Alvin “Butch” Vorce; and his parents-in-law Milo and Margaret Landreth (Stewart).
