Plane Crashes In Holt County Pasture

A plane was found down in a pasture early Tuesday afternoon near Chambers

On May, 16 the Holt County Sheriff's Office, Holt County Attorney and Coroner's Office, Nebraska State Patrol and the Chambers Fire Department responded to a reported aircraft crash. The site of the crash was in a pasture located four miles east, two miles north and 1.2 miles east of Chambers. The pilot was pronounced dead at the scene. The pilot was identified as being Mark S. Gietzen, age 69 of Witchita Kansas. The aircraft was identified  as a 1963 Cessna 172. The aircraft had flown from Newton, Kansas and was en-route to North Dakota at the time of the crash. The Holt County Sheriff's Office secured the crash scene. Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) arrived Wednesday morning at the crash site. The cause of the crash is undetermined.
