Call to Order

The regular board meeting of the O'Neill Public School Board of Education was called to order by President Amy Jo Rowse at 7:33 pm, on Monday, May 13, 2024 at the Administrative Offices at 635 North 4th Street, O'Neill, Nebraska. 

Roll Call

Administrators Jill Brodersen, DeAnna Clifton, Nathan Larsen, Mike Rotherham, and Will Wragge were present.

A motion to excuse Bart Becker and Coby Welke, passed with a motion made by Michael Hammerlun and seconded by Monica Huber.

Reception of Visitors

Visitors were welcomed and informed that this meeting was in compliance with the Nebraska Open Meetings Act which is posted on the east wall of the board room.

Oral and Written Communications

Communications received, either written or oral, were reviewed.  

Stacy Vandersnick addressed the board regarding an opportunity to bring in a speaker on Bullying for the staff, student body, and parents for the beginning of the school year.  She would pay for the speaker expense if she could use the Elementary and Jr-Sr High school gymnasiums.  President Amy Jo Rowse directed her to contact Mr. Rotherham regarding scheduling options.

Robotics Report

The Worlds qualifying JH Robotics team of Benson Bohlender, Lorelai Johnston, Talan Johnston, and Riley Roessler shared with the board a robotics demonstration. They also shared their experience and excitement while attending the competition in Dallas, Texas.  The team is already looking forward to the new challenge for the 2024-2025 school year.

• Deaf & Hard of Hearing Education Contract

A motion to renew the Deaf & Hard of Hearing Education Contract with Carre Klein for the 2024-2025 school year, passed with a motion made by Michael Hammerlun and seconded by Monica Huber.

Shot Clocks

Mr. Larsen shared additional information about the shot clocks. He has indicated the cost will be $4,500 including freight. No action is necessary.

Mr. Larsen shared additional information about the football scoreboard.  He has indicated the cost will be $22,000 including freight and the control box. No action is necessary.

Video Board

Mr. Larsen updated the board regarding the advertising sponsor's progress for the potential video board. No action is necessary.

Set Lunch Prices for the Upcoming School Year

The meal prices will be confirmed, reviewed, and approved at the June school board meeting. No action was taken.

Policy #5045 - Student Fees

President Amy Jo Rowse opened a public hearing at 8:05 to receive input, discuss, and consider, any changes to the Student Fee Policy. Having received no public comment, President Rowse, closed the hearing at 8:06 pm.

A motion to advance Policy #5045 - Student Fees to second reading, passed with a motion made by Michael Hammerlun and seconded by Monica Huber.
