Eagles Ty Rainforth placed 13th at the O'Neill Invite last week. This past Friday, Sept. 17th, the O'Neill Eagles hosted their annual cross-country invitational. The meet was held at the O'Neill Country Club. Thirteen schools competed in the invitational.
The O'Neill Lady Eagles placed fifth as a team. Leading the Eagles again was sophomore Ashley Dickau placing eighth. Yoselin Cayax was 24th, Nahomi Sunum 28th, Ally Sedlacek 31st, Lauryn Dusatko 44th, and Jace Gregory 51st. Sophomore Bethany Owens placed fourth in the junior varsity division.
The O'Neill Boys Team placed third overall with 57 points. Medalists were seniors Brady Thompson fifth and Ty Rainforth 13th. Kullen Cartella was 17th, Mikah Raymond 35th, Kyler Dean 39th, and Elijah Kopecky 40th.
The junior varsity boys scored 10 points. Medaling for the junior varsity were Gus Laible second, Trevor Alder third, Brayden Romesser fifth, Tyler Diediker sixth, John Alen seventh, Cater Hickey eighth, Jairo Lazo 11th, Caleb Laursen 13th, and Ashten Burival 14th.
“This is week we saw a lot of improvement with Eagle Cross-Country. We are competing in the middle of the race,” said Coach Hilker.
In the junior high girl's division, the Eagles placed third as a team. Eagles placed as followed: Taya Dickau 6th, Savannah Gallagher 15th, Elle Hoffman 17th, Molly Corkle 20th, Madison Shoemaker 29th, Suhoni Chaudhari 36th, Hailey Romesser 39th, Grace Mitchell 43rd and Addie Sigler 46th.
The junior high boys team placed 5th. Placers were Ethan Sukup 22nd, Arya Chaudhari 25th, Logan Bradshaw 29th, Eden Calvo 33rd, Sawyer Strong 34th, Luke Strong 36th, Zach Buller 36th, Cooper Cole 42nd, Isaac Sunum 43rd, Lane Hoefer 44th, and Caleb Asche 45th.
Previous to this meet, the Eagles competed on Friday, Sept. 10th, at the Norfolk Catholic Cross Country Invitational. With sixteen schools competing, this meet was a bit larger and a great challenge for the team.
The Lady Eagles placed 9th in the varsity division. Sixty-nine high school girls competed in the meet. Leading the Eagles again was Ashley Dickau placing 16th. The rest of the team placed as follows: Ally Sedlacek 46th, Yoselin Cayax 47th, Nahomi Sunum 50th, Lauryn Dusatko 53rd, and Jace Gregory 66th.
“It was the hottest day of the week. I thought we ran well. Mentally, we need to understand that it's going to get uncomfortable in the middle of the race,” said Coach Hilker.
The boys team finished ninth in the varsity division and 4th in the junior varsity division. Leading the Eagles were two seniors: Brady Thompson 14th and Ty Rainforth 26th. The rest of the varsity team was: Mikah Raymond 44th, Kyler Dean 65th, and John Alden 77th.
The junior varsity team was led by freshman Trevor Alder who placed 7th. Other team members were Gus Laible 14th, Carter Hickey 20th, Brayden Romesser 30th, Jairo Lazo 47th, and Caleb Laursen 49th.
“The boys competed today. They gave a really good effort. We need to keep improving. It will be fun to see what they can do,” commented Hilker.
Friday, Sept. 24th, the O'Neill Eagles compete at the Boone Central Individual Invitational. Race starts at 4:30 p.m.
