Last week the O'Neill Eagles opened their cross-country season at the Valentine Invitational. Three other teams competed at the meet. The Eagles were able to win all four team titles. The meet was run in the Class D format, where five runners were identified as varsity, and three runners were scorers. In the high school girl's division junior Taya Dickau and Mollie Corkle placed 2nd & 3rd respectively. Hailey Romesser and Lauren Winkelbauer placed 7th & 8th. The girls' team scored 6 points. The Boys varsity placed had a perfect score. The team was led by sophomore Max Berg 1st, Paul Fonseca 2nd, Trevor Alder 3rd, Tomas Arciniega 5th, Brandon Romero 11th, and Brock Latzel 12th. Rest of the team placed as followed: Logan Bradshaw 15th, Evan Cole 16th, Caleb Laursen 21st, Alex Otte 23rd, Gavin Kruse 24th, Luke Wilson 25th, Kaleb Asche 26th and Tucker Cook 27th. The junior high girls' race was won by Kiarra Kennedy and the team earned 10 points. Taylee Wade placed 4th, Emma Bowder 5th, Jailynn Romesser 7th, and Lynn Miner 8th. In junior high boy's race Jordani Perez won it overall with the team having a perfect score of 6 points. The team placed as followed: Tyson Becker 2nd, Angel Sanchez 3rd, Kyler Wettlaufer 4th, Isaiah Wiekamp 8th, Jax Stevens 9th, Lane Dougherty 10th, Jase Sanders 14th, and Fernando Cayax 16th. “The Valentine Invitational was a small meet but a great opener for all the athletes. I really liked how we attacked the middle of the race. Our goal is to get stronger every week,” said Coach Hilker. The Eagle Cross Country Team will compete at the Boone Central Invitational this Friday September 6th. The first race will begin at 10:00 a.m.
