New City Council Members Sworn In At Monday's December Meeting

Retiring Council members were honored at Monday's city council meeting. Terri Krysl was honored for 20 years and Don Baker for 32 years of serving on the O'Neill City Council. Mayor Scott Menish is pictured center presenting the pair with certificates of recognition.

The O'Neill City Council met for its regular meeting on Monday, Dec. 5.

The council read the third reading of the ordinance 1413 which was for  issuing highway allocation notes in an amount to not exceed 1,000,000.  The council approved and moved on to the next item, which was the third reading of the Ordinance 1414 to approve bulk water rate increase and adoption. The motion was made to adopt and the council approved the rate. 

A bid of $245,872 was given from Midlands Contracting of Kearney was submitted for the 2023 sewer lining project. The project is slated to start in the spring of 2023 and is scheduled to end in August of 2023.

The council then honored Don Baker who served on the council for 32 years and Terri Krysl who served for 20 years on the council. Both decided to retire and not run for re-election.  Replacing Don Baker is Michelle Liewer for Ward I. Liewer previously was the council representative for her Ward filling in for a retiring council member; and replacing Terri Krysl is Paul Asche for Ward III. Both council members were elected in the Nov. election. Tim Schneider was elected as the new council president replacing Baker.

The Council approved new liquor licenses for the Good Timin' Bar in the name of Jerald F. Kloppenborg and Irish Spirits in the name of Ida Reynolds.

Discussion was held on the Residential Ranchette District updates. The council looked into current zoning regulations and after lengthy discussion decided to leave the issue as is.

A brief discussion was also held on the subject of rules and regulations of  the placement of tiny homes.  City Attorney Boyd Strope told the council that currently the regulations are covered by the city's subdivision  and coven regulations regarding these structures. The council was advised to consider that the subject may come up and they may have to deal with it at some point.

The council finished the evening by approving Travis Halsey for the O'Neill Fire Department and approving the bills.
