Ewing — Mary A. Bourn, 90, of Ewing, died peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024 surrounded by her family.

Visitation was held Monday, Oct. 7, 2024 at St. William's Catholic Church in Niobrara with a rosary.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 7, 2024 at the church in Niobrara. Fr. James Kramper officiated.

Burial was in the L'Eau Qui Court Cemetery in Niobrara.

Memorials may be made to the L'Eau Qui Court Cemetery in Niobrara in Mary's name.

Brockhaus Funeral Home in Niobrara was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary was the daughter of William and Amy Irene (Loney) Nolan.

Mary received her teaching certificate from Wayne State College. On June 2, 1953.

She married her high school sweetheart Jim Bourn. They settled in Ewing in 1964 where they purchased a lumberyard/hardware/feed store. They retired in 1997.

Mary's top priority was to take care of her family. Mary was a wonderful cook and baker. You would never leave hungry and would have a plate to take home. She enjoyed sewing and knitting. 

She was very active with the St. Peter's Catholic Church. After retirement Jim and Mary were actively involved with the operation of the Sunset Thrift Shop.

Mary is survived by her husband of 71 years Jim; two children James (Elizabeth) of Alliance and Deborah (David) Tunink of Lincoln; four grandchildren Luke (Lori) Bourn, Eileen Hulquist, Travis (Haley) Tunink and Brice (Kate) Tunink; seven great-grandchildren Tyler Bourn, Aubrey Bourn, Gabe Hulquist, Brayden Hulquist, Brook Tunink, Lily Tunink and Sutton Tunink; one sister Pat Melcher; four sisters-in-law Colleen Nolan, Mary Fran Nolan, Merriellen Bourn and Lonna Bourn; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her eight siblings Kay (Jay) Birt, Betty (Tom) Newsam, Sam (Wilma) Nolan, Eileen (Dan) Slechta, Margaret (Marvin) Drobny, Bernice (Vern) Hoffart, Bill Nolan and Jack Nolan; and five brothers-in-law Robert Melcher, Don (Donna) Bourn, Harvey Ray Bourn, Bob Bourn and Ken Bourn.
