Marvin A. Peter, 77, of O'Neill, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2022 at his home in O'Neill.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill.

Burial was in the O'Neill Cemetery in O'Neill with military rites provided by the O'Neill American Legion Simonson Post 93.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Marvin was born in O'Neill on July 22, 1945, to John G. and Marie (Sladek) Peter.

Following his graduation from St. Mary's High School in 1963, Marv attended Creighton University in Omaha for two years before volunteering in the U.S. Army and serving in Vietnam from 1965-67. One of his favorite events was going on the Veterans' Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in June, 2016.

After returning to civilian life, he worked for Pinkerman's TV in O'Neill and then resumed ranching with his dad and Uncle Harry. He lived as a rancher, south of O'Neill, for most of his life and retired from ranching in 2019.

He will be remembered for his quick sense of humor, his love for building sheds and helping people whenever they needed something.

For many years he had St. Bernard dogs, which kept him company as he worked around the home place.

Marvin fostered many friendships over the years, belonging to the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Simonson Post 93. He was faithful to Mass attendance at St. Patrick's Catholic Church and contributed his time and efforts to the annual parish auction.

He will truly be missed.

Marv is survived by his sister Marlene (Ron) Hoch and their children Craig Hoch, Andy Hoch, Beth Isakson and Laura Byrne, all from Minnesota and his sister Arlyss (Robert) Lasecki and their children Aaron Rochholz and Julia Rochholz, all from Illinois, Cal's wife Jane Peter and their children Mike (Deb) Peter, Dan (Angie) Peter and Steve Peter, all from Nebraska, as well as many cousins, extended cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, many aunts and uncles and his double-cousin Callan (Cal) Peter.
