Ewing — Marie Eileen Vandersnick, 97, of Ewing, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2025 at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill.

Visitation was held Monday, Aug. 25, 2025 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Ewing with a parish rosary.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025 at the church in Ewing. Fr. John Norman officiated.

Burial was in the Vandersnick Cemetery south of Ewing.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill was in charge of the arrangements.

Marie was born on May 22, 1928 in O'Connor, to John and Anna (Mulcahy) Burns. Marie attended St. Joseph's Academy in O'Connor and graduated with the class of 1946. When she was young, she used to attend dances that her parents chaperoned. This started her lifelong love of dancing.

After high school, Marie attended Grand Island Business School in Grand Island. She then went to work for REA as a bookkeeper for 12 years.

Marie met Donald Vandersnick at a picnic at Pibel Lake. They later got married on April 4, 1959 in Grand Island. To this union five children were born Leo, Anna, John, Paul and Charles. Marie and Don made their home on Don's family farm. Marie was a true farm wife, she had a big garden, helped feed the cows and pigs, and cleaned chickens. After Don passed away in 2008, she continued to live on the farm with her son Paul. She even helped him put a bin back together at the age of 75.

Marie was a member of the Church of the Visitation in O'Connor and said she lived in the shade of the O'Connor Church. Later she was a member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church in Ewing and an active member of the St. Peter's Christian Mothers. She was a founding member of the Sunset Second Hand Store and she was a member of the Ewing American Legion Sanders Post 214 Auxiliary.

She enjoyed baking, frying up chickens for her family and making cinnamon rolls. Marie enjoyed quilting and was always getting together with her sisters so they could quilt together. She enjoyed sewing clothes and she's also made 100's of rosarys. She also enjoyed traveling to many of Don's Army reunions. Best of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marie is survived by her five children Leo (Stacy) Vandersnick of O'Neill, Anna (Michael) Crabtree of Brunswick, John (Kathy) Vandersnick of O'Neill, Paul Vandersnick of Ewing and Charles (Renee) Vandersnick of O'Neill; eight grandchildren Ashley (Brett) Wiebelhaus, Tiffany (Brian) Tjepes, Heather (Ben) Larsen, Adrien Vandersnick, Kelsey (Jared) Beltz, Casey Vandersnick, Sarah Vandersnick and Traci (Brett) Halleen; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Don in 2008; and four siblings Eulalia Burns, Harold (Vivian) Burns, Anna (Joe) Ryan and Margaret (Gerald) Bellairs.
