Newport — Marian M. Cook, 82, of Newport, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022 at Arbor Care Center in O'Neill with her children Karl, Jim and Kathy at her bedside and Wayne welcoming her to the other side.

Visitation was held Friday, Oct. 7, 2022 at Seger Funeral Home in Atkinson with a rosary.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Atkinson. Fr. Ross Burkhalter officiated. Music was provided by soloist Bonnie Krysl and organist Deb Kaup.

Pallbearers were Jonathan Cook, Josh Keyes, Schyler Forman, Garrett Lake, Easton Cook and Tucker Cook.

Honorary pallbearers were Nick Schaaf, Roy Schaaf, Vernie Schaaf, Ray Timmerman, Shalee Cook, Tristan Keyes, Alexa Cook, Afton Baker, Ashley Forman, Aubrey Miller,  Jared Miller, Danielle McDermott, Matt McDermott, Connor McDermott, Haley Fletcher, Dennis McDermott, Liz Alcaraz and Elena Fouch.

Burial was in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Atkinson.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Marian was born on Jan. 28, 1940, to Charles and Katherine (Ramold) Deermer at their family home outside Stuart. She was the second of six children.

Marian attended school at St. Joseph's Catholic school in Atkinson. 

After graduation in 1957, she went to Milwaukee, WI, to join the convent. 

After a year and a half, she returned home where she met Robert Cook. They married Aug. 19th, 1963. They had four children Karl Dean, James Dean, Wayne Anthony and Katherine Marie. 

Marian was always a hard-working woman. Her first job was for her parents at the creamery and doing upholstery work. She also spent time driving truck, hauling livestock and hay, farming and ranching, working at National Farms, making bow strings at Cornhusker Archery and cooking at Rock County Hospital and Long-term Care. 

She retired nine years ago to be more available to her son Wayne after he was diagnosed with cancer. 

Marian will be remembered most for all the love and pride she had in her family. 

Marian is survived by her two sons Karl Cook and James Cook of Atkinson;  one daughter Kathy (Tom) McDermott of O'Neill; one daughter-in-law Nikki Cook; two brothers Ron of Huntsville, AL, and Larry of O'Neill; one sister Linda (Joe) Baker of Chambers; one sister-in-law Marge (George) Ferris of Atkinson; 13 grandchildren Shalee Cook of Ewing, Tristan (Josh) Keyes of O'Neill, Alexa (Afton) Cook of Lincoln, Jonathan (Liz) Cook of O'Neill, Aubrey (Jared) Miller of Bellevue, Matt McDermott of Lincoln, Connor (Haley) McDermott of Maryland, Garrett Lake of O'Neill, Ashley (Schyler) Forman of Verdigre, Dennis McDermott and Danielle McDermott, both of Pennsylvania, and Easton Cook and Tucker Cook, both of O'Neill; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents,  parents-in-law, one sister Joann, one brother Dick,  ex-husband Bob and one son Wayne.
