Larry Lee Brookhouser, 92, of O'Neill, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025 at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill. Visitation was held Friday, Jan. 31, 2025 at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025 at the funeral home in Creighton. Rev. Janice Nelson officiated. Memorials may be made to the family for future designation. Larry, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, passed away at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on Sept. 16, 1932, in Walnut, NE, to Ralph and Rose (Sokol) Brookhouser, Larry's love of the family farm instilled in him a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for family—values he carried throughout his life. Larry served his country in the United States Navy after graduating from high school. Larry's life was a testament to resilience, kindness and the joy found in simple pleasures such as playing pitch and tending to his cattle and horses. He prioritized and cherished time with his family, creating countless memories through laughter and love. Fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched, Larry leaves behind a legacy of warmth, integrity and generosity that will continue to inspire those who knew him. Larry is survived by his four children James (D) Brookhouser, Tom (Tammy) Brookhouser, Don (Jeff) Webber and Lisa Poppas; his loving life partner and sidekick Melba Wrede; two sisters Donna Tusha and Anita Havlicek; 12 grandchildren Jeff McCoy, Joshua Brookhouser, Zachariah Rehak, Natasha Schaefer, Makenzie Barry, Kylie Michael, Tara Brookhouser, Zach Martin, Lynzi Martin, Sydni Tew, Kayla Totusek and Katelyn Meidinger; and 17 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. He was preceded in death by his three grandchildren Jessica, Ashley and Colton; his former wife Patricia (Tomlinson) Brookhouser; his parents; and three siblings Ray Brookhouser, Lorrene Border and Leanore Bartos.
