Lady Eagles Make It Through Conference

SAFE! O'NEILL/ST. MARY'S EMERSON MLNARIK slides into second against Highway 91 on Thursday, Sept. 25

O'Neill proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by 11) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Guardian Angels Central Catholic Bluejays 5-4. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 5-0 win the Bluejays walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

Rylee Selby spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. Those 13 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jozy York, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Grace Drueke also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

On Thursday Sept. 25 the Lady Cardinals defeated Highway 91 2-0 to finish off their games at home for the season.

This past weekend the Lady Eagles played in conference tournament.

If O'Neill was feeling good fresh off their 8-0 takedown of Pierce on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Eagles fell 8-4 to the Wayne Blue Devils on Saturday. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Blue Devils: they've now lost seven in a row.

O'Neill saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylee Selby, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double. That double was Selby's first of the season.

O'Neill's loss dropped their record down to 14-11. As for Wayne, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 18-8.

O'Neill got themselves on the board against Boone Central on Saturday, but Boone Central never followed suit. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over the Cardinals. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by six runs or more this season.

Rylee Selby was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Selby was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 14 matchups.

In other batting news, O'Neill got a big performance out of Harley Kinnison, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI. That's the most hits Kinnison has posted since back in August of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Blackburn, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

O'Neill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

O'Neill is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-11 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Boone Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-11.
