Lady Eagles Fall To Hartington In Mid-State Conference Play

The Lady Eagles met up with the host team, the Battle Creek Braves on Tuesday, Oct. 12. The Eagles struggled in the first set, but kept it close in the following two sets. However at the end of the match, they were on the losing side of the scoreboard, 16-25, 23-25 and 24-26. Leading scorers for the Eagles were Junior Wreece Liewer with 12 kills, one ace and 17 digs; Freshman Olivia Young four kills, two blocks and nine digs; Freshman Ashley Sidak four kills and six digs; Senior Madisyn Hilker three kills, one ace, one block, 12 digs and two assists; Sophomore Autumn Hilker three kills, one ace, 11 digs and one assist; and Sophomore Keeley Chavez nine digs and 22 assists. On Thursday, Oct. 14 the Lady Eagles faced off against the Norfolk Catholic Knights when they traveled to Norfolk for a triangular. Again they kept it close but were on the losing side at the end of the match. They lost 22-25 in both sets they played. Leading the Eagles were Young with 10 kills, one ace, one block and six digs; Madisyn Hilker four kills, one block, 10 digs and one assist; Autumn Hilker four kills and 11 digs; Liewer three kills, 16 digs and one assist, Sidak two kills and 11 digs; and Chavez nine digs and 20 assists. The second match on Thursday brought the Eagles face-to-face with the Neligh-Oakdale Warriors. This time the Eagles claimed the victory in two sets, 25-13 and 25-12. The Eagles were led by Liewer with seven kills, one ace, six digs and one assist; Autumn Hilker four kills, one ace, one block and eight digs; Sidak two kills and five digs; Madisyn Hilker one kill, two aces and four digs; Young one kill, one block and nine digs; and Chavez two aces, nine digs and 14 assists. On Monday, Oct. 18, the Mid States Conference Tournament began. The Lady Eagles ran into the Cedar Catholic Trojans from Hartington. Unfortunately this did not end well for the Eagles as they lost in three sets, 23-25, 18-25 & 18-25.
