Block - Lorissa Reiman goes up for a block against Addi Ketteler in action on Friday night at the NVC Volleyball final.

The St. Mary's lady Cardinals took the NVC Tournament last weekend defeating Stuart in four sets at the Summerland High School where the final matches were held on Friday, Oct. 21. The Cards went on their usual win streak last week, defeating all of their competition in the tourney.

The Cardinals first faced off against the North Central Knights last Monday. The first set was a close one, but the Cards were able to snag the win. The second and third set were no different, allowing the Cards to take the win for a final score of 3-0; 25-21, 25-16 and 25-19.

Leading the Cardinals was Mya Hedstrom with a staggering 21 kills, one ace serve, one block and 15 digs; Lorissa Reiman 10 kills, one ace serve, five blocks and eight digs; Alissa Brabec two kills, one ace serve, one block, 13 digs and 29 set assists; Emma Otte two kills, one block, four digs and three set assists; Gracie Williamson two kills and two digs; Annabelle Barlow one block, one dig and one set assist; Hope Williamson one ace serve and 13 digs; and Joslyn Eby six ace serves, one block and two digs.

The Cardinals next match saw them face off the Elkhorn Valley Falcons on Tuesday.

This was a well balanced match between the two schools, with each set ending just a couple of points off from each other. No matter how fiercely the Falcons fought, they weren't able to take down the Cardinals in the end. The final score for this game was even closer than the previous day's 3-0; 25-20, 25-21 and 25-21.

Hedstrom was in the lead again with another impressive 21 kills, one ace serve, two blocks and 10 digs; Reiman 15 kills, three ace serves, one block and nine digs; Otte five kills, one block, 12 digs and three set assists; Brabec one kill, six ace serves, two blocks, 11 digs and 37 set assists; Eby one kill and one dig; G. Williamson one block, Barlow one block and one dig; and H. Williamson two ace serves and 15 digs.

On Friday the Cardinal girls faced Stuart in the NVC Championship game winning the game 25-27, 25-20, 18-25 and 25-27.

The Bronco girls started out on fire, but St. Mary's hung in there and came back and won in a close first set. The Broncos battled back and won the second set with good attacks and aggressive serving, but it turned around in the third set with the Cards being the aggressors in serving and attacking. The fourth set was a good battle, but poor serve receives hurt the Broncos and the girls lost the set 25-27.

The Cards first game in sub-district action was against the Chambers/Wheeler Central Renegades on Monday, Oct. 24. This was a clean victory for the Cards. Their defense was too strong for the Renegades to get through. The final score ended in a 3-0 victory for the Cardinals, making this their ninth game in a row without losing. The set scores were 25-12, 25-4 and 25-10.

Hedstrom still led the Cards with 13 kills, two blocks, seven digs and one set assist; Reiman 10 kills, seven ace serves and three digs; Winkelbauer four kills, one block and one dig; Brabec three kills, four ace serves, one dig and 30 set assists; Barlow three kills, two ace serves, three digs and two set assists; Otte three kills, two ace serves and one dig; Eby five ace serves and one block; H. Williamsom one ace serve and seven digs; and G. Williamson one ace serve.
