The St. Mary's Lady Cardinals will be competing at the Nebraska State Volleyball Tourney this weekend. The Cardinals earned their trip on Saturday when they traveled to Litchfield and downed the Paxton Tigers in three sets winning 25-15, 25-15 and 25-14. The Cards who are the number three seed will play the number six seed Sumner-Eddyville-Miller in the first round of the tourney at Pinnacle Bank Arena at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2. This is the second straight season the Lady Cards have made the tourney. The Cardinals were heads above Paxton not only in stature but with their quality of play as the Cards pulled ahead early and held solid leads through out all three sets for the win. Mya Hedstrom led the Cardinals in the district matchup with 21 kills, three blocks and 11 digs; Lorissa Reiman had 12 kills, three ace serves, two blocks and 16 digs for the Cards; Emma Otte had four kills, one block, four set assists and three digs; Joslyn Eby had four kills, one ace serve, one block and two digs; Gracie Williamson had two kills and one block, Alissa Brabec one kill, two ace serves, six digs and 37 set assists; Annabelle Barlow four ace serves, and eight digs. SMH 25 25 25 3 PHS 15 15 14 0 On Tuesday, Oct. 24 the Cardinals faced off with EPPJ in the sub-district final winning 25-18, 23-25,25-18 and 25-22. This was a good win for the Cards who just the week before had went five sets with the Wolfpack in the NVC finals at Bartlett. The Cards got a solid lead in the first set with EPPJ coming as close as 18-12 before the Cards closing the match with a seven point win. The second set was interesting for the Cardinals with EPPJ leading by eight 16-7 with the Cards making a try to stop and with the score at 23-15 the Cards held their ground at 24-20 and finally EPPJ got the win by two winning 25-23. The Cards finished out the last two sets solidly for the victory and the advancement to the district match. Hedstrom led the Cards with 24 kills, one block and 10 digs; Reiman 13 kills and seven digs; Brabec four kills, 12 digs and 45 set assists; Pyper Ickes five kills and eight digs; Eby four kills, one dig and two ace serves; Otte, two ace serves and five digs; Barlow two ace serves and 13 digs.
