Jason A. Beck

WAshington — Jason A. Beck, 60, of Washington, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022 at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, WA, from complications of a double lung transplant with his wife and kids by his side. He had been diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in January 2016. Jason was a devout Christian who attended the Catholic Church. He said if he got new lungs, that would be great, but if he did not, he would be with Jesus and that would be great too.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2023 at Our Lady of Hope Church in Everett, WA. Streaming will be available. A reception will follow and a gathering for family and friends at the Beck home from 3-7 p.m.  

Burial will take place at a later date this summer in O'Neill.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Jason was born July 3, 1962, in Atkinson, the son of Winifred Beck Brommer and John Beck. He attended St. Mary's High School in O'Neill graduating with the class of 1981. 

While a senior in high school he met eighth grader Diane Tomlinson. She had written in her diary that when Jason came into the church, he flicked Holy Water on her, telling his friends she was his wife. She found that diary after he had proposed to her. He had been working at San Francisco International Airport and she was a nanny out in Alameda, CA when they began to date.

Jason attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln for a semester. 

He was a member of the U.S. National Guard, the U.S. Army for a short time, and then the U.S. Air Force where he developed his interest in working on aircraft. 

After finishing his military service he attended Cheyenne Aero Tech. He then received his FCC license at a college in Colorado. 

After graduation, he began his 30 + year career in aviation, both as a mechanic and then a QA inspector working on commercial jets with Northwest Airlines (now Delta), first in San Francisco and then in Minneapolis/St. Paul for 17 years, private jets with Duncan Aviation in Lincoln for 2 years, and the last 14 years with Boeing in Everett, WA. Jason was a very hard worker, at times assigned to projects in Arizona, Oregon, California and even Japan, many times working 12-hour days for many weeks at a time.

Jason and Diane married in June of 1991 and had three children Jenna (24) Caitlyn (21) and Jaden (17). 

He enjoyed listening to Bible in a Year with Father Mike Schmitz Podcast Show, attending church, listening to music and taking his family on trips all over the world with flight benefits from Delta, camping, most especially his campfires, hiking a bit and spending times playing games with his family. He was very generous to others and in giving to many different charities and his church. He also loved his Nebraska Cornhuskers!

Jason is survived by his wife Diane Tomlinson Beck; their children Jenna, Caitlyn and Jaden; his three sisters Rosemary Beck and Karen "Becky" (Randy) Schmeichel, all from Nebraska, and Char Beck from New Mexico; and numerous sisters-and-brothers-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Jonathan.
