Holt County Department of Weeds Proceedings (8-31-2023)

August 10, 2023

Chair John Hammerlun called the meeting to order at 5:00 pm

Present: Dan Drueke, Tom Welsh, Dan Pribil, Chair John Hammerlun, Supervisor Dustin Breiner and Weed Superintendent William Babutzke. 

Excused: Kevin DeKay

Minutes Approved: Tom Welsh made a motion to approve the minutes and Dan Drueke seconded. All approved

Claims Approved: Dan Pribil made a motion to approve the claims and Tom Welsh  seconded. All approved.

Old Business: N/A

New Business: The weed department is spraying trees now, over half finished. Ordered more chemicals to complete. 

Two hundred seventy five bails quarantined. Measures are being taken to keep this from movement. Owner is allowed to feed and move closer to water.

Nebraska Department of Ag (N.D.A.) Mitch Coflin retired. Olivia Wolken moved to a different position.  Job opening for district field inspector is open now. 

Bids for a 4 wheeler: Mitchell Equipment is $9,500.00 Yamaha 2023, Big Red Motorsports 2023 Arctic Cat Alterra 450 $7,649.00, Big Red Motorsports 2023 Can-Am Outlander DPS 500 $8,784.00.  No motion was made. Bill Babutzke will look into financing.  

Information on the following list of twelve noxious weeds found in Nebraska can be located at the neweed.org website with sufficient information on each noxious weed. 

Canada Thistle, Musk Thistle, Plumeless Thistle, Purple Loosestrife, Spotted Knapweed, Diffuse Knapweed, Saltcedar, Phragmites, Giant Knotweed, Japanese Knotweed, Sericea Lespedeza, Leafy Spurge.

Next Meeting will be Thursday September 14, at 7:00 PM at the Weed Department Office.  

Dan Pribil made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Tom Welsh seconded. All approved. 

Meeting adjourned at 5:52 pm.
