Holt County Department of Weeds Proceedings (12-22-2022)

December 8, 2022

Chair John Hammerlun called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

Present: Tom Welsh, Dan Drueke, Dan Pribil, Chair John Hammerlun, Supervisor Dustin Breiner and Bill Babutzke Weed Superintendent.

Excused Kevin DeKay

Minutes Approved: Dan Drueke made a motion to approve the minutes and Dan Pribil seconded. Dustin Breiner abstained. Tom Welsh, Dan Drueke, Dan Pribil, John Hammerlun approved.   

Claims Approved: Dan Pribil made a motion to approve the claims and Tom Welsh seconded. All approved.

Old Business: Tracking device – tabled. A conversation of spraying new cement with ice melt was discussed.    

New Business: Olivia Wolken will be the new NDA field inspector for this area.

Shredding has begun with 97 hours on the machine. Bill has a map as to where he has been. Mostly in Stuart and Atkinson area. The machine is back in O'Neill and Bill will start in the northeast part of the county cutting Plum Brush, Cedar Trees etcetera. 

Bill's computer needs to be updated. Time to upgrade and will consider for next years budget. 

Boyd, Knox and Holt counties are planning on hosting the next Leafy Spurge Working Task Force the summer 2023.

Information on the following list of twelve noxious weeds found in Nebraska can be located at the neweed.org website with sufficient information on each noxious weed. 

Canada Thistle, Musk Thistle, Plumeless Thistle, Purple Loosestrife, Spotted Knapweed, Diffuse Knapweed, Saltcedar, Phragmites, Giant Knotweed, Japanese Knotweed, Sericea Lespedeza, Leafy Spurge.

Next Meeting will be Thursday January 12, 2023, at 6:00 PM at the Weed Department Office.  

Dan Pribil made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Tom Welsh seconded. All approved. 

Meeting adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
