Atkinson — Holly Colleen Shane, 86, of Atkinson, died Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at the Good Samaritan Society in Atkinson. Visitation was held Friday, April 8, 2022 at Seger's Funeral Home in Atkinson with a prayer service. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 9, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church in Atkinson. Pastor Wayne Owens officiated. Music was provided by Kelly and Kellylyn Kloppenborg, Terri Kloppenborg, Jean Mellor and Eileen Osborne. Pallbearers were Shane and Kent Clark, Perry Shane, Greg, Mark and Kyle Roh, Tyson Stracke and Carson Rieck. Honorary pallbearers were Becky Mundorf, Amelia McCumber, Andrea Erickson, Lisa Farden, Gina Bourne, Kady Simons, Molly Shane, Alison Stracke, Madison Stracke, Reagan Stracke and Hollynn Rieck. Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Atkinson. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Atkinson in Holly's name. Holly was born on Dec. 4, 1935 to Carl and Lillie (Fix) Smith from South of Atkinson. She was the youngest of nine children. She attended grade school in the country and graduated from Atkinson High School in 1953. Holly became a teacher and taught at her home school. On June 21, 1954 she was united in marriage to Charles Shane who was discharged from the U.S. Army in April of 1954. They were wed at the Methodist Church in Atkinson. To this marriage they had eight children Colette, Kirk, Lori, Scott, Carol, Todd, Jenny and Amy. The family lived North of Atkinson where she worked on the farm alongside Charles and the kids. She cooked for every employee, kid, salesman and hitchhiker! The Shane's had one of the first irrigation systems in the area where she helped hand move equipment on 80 acres of corn, pregnant or not! Holly was an active member of the Presbyterian Church for many years. She became an elder of the church and represented the Senate of Nebraska at the General Assembly Meeting in New York. She volunteered her time to the Republican party and helped at the election polling centers in Atkinson and Holt County. Charles and Holly made many trips throughout their marriage including Switzerland, France and Spain with close neighbors, friends and brother Harold (Fredda). They attended University of Nebraska football games in Lincoln, Florida and Louisiana. The highlight of all these trips was when they returned home. Holly was happiest at home with her family and friends. She was very busy chasing kids and grandkids who participated in many sporting events, 4H, rodeos, fairs and town celebrations. She was famous for her pie crusts, cinnamon rolls and caramel corn. Holly is survived by her devoted husband Charles Shane of 67 years; eight children Colette Clark Uttecht of O'Neill, Kirk (Barb 'Doolittle') Shane of Atkinson, Jerry (Tammy) Roh of Abie, Scott Shane of Atkinson, Carol (Gary) Kaup of Colleyville, Texas, Todd (Amy 'Graham') Shane of O'Neill, Mike Stracke of Stuart and Amy (Chad) Rieck of Creston, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one sister Genevieve Forbes of Fort Collins, CO; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Lillie Smith; eight siblings Evelyn (Lawrence) Pacha, Albert (Quentin) Smith, Clarence Smith, Carl (Edith) Smith, Sylvia (William) Morgan, Betty (Robert) LeMunyan, Alvin Forbes and Lester Smith; her in-laws Oliver and Ferne Shane; brother- and sister-in-law Harold and Fredda Shane; two daughters Lori Roh and Jenny Stracke; two sons-in-law Anthony Clark and Russ Uttecht; and three granddaughters Rachel Shane, Hope Shane and Kira Erickson. 15 ____________
